Estimation of genetic and phenotypic trends for body weight traits of sheep in Guilan province of Iran
Authors
Abstract:
The main objective of the present study was to estimate genetic and phenotypic trends for body weight traits in Guilan province sheep. Traits included were birth weight (BW, n=14,549), 3-month weight (3MW, n=13,109) and 6-month weight (6MW, n=10,141). Data and pedigree information used in this study were collected during 1994 to 2011 by the Agricultural Organization of Guilan province in Iran. Animal breeding values were predicted using univariate analysis based on animal model. The GLM procedure of SAS was used for determining the fixed effects which had significant influence on the traits under study. The Wombat software was employed to estimate the breeding values. The Best Liner Unbiased Predictions (BLUP) of breeding values were obtained, and genetic and phenotypic trends were estimated as the regression of the average predicted breeding and phenotypic values on birth year, respectively. Environmental trends were calculated as the difference between phenotypic and genetic trends. Direct genetic trends were positive and significant (P

Estimation of genetic parameters for body weight traits in Baluchi sheep
Genetic parameters for birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), 6 months weight (6MW), 9 months weight (9MW) and yearling weight (YW) in Baluchi sheep were estimated using data collected during a 26-year period (1984-2010). Estimates of (co)variance components were obtained by REML procedures by fitting a linear mixed animal model. Significant random effects for each trait were explored by fitti...
full textEstimating Genetic Parameters of Body Weight Traits in Kourdi Sheep
For estimating genetic parameters for body weight traits in Kourdi sheep data were collected from 1996 to 2013 in Kourdi Breeding Station in Northern Khorasan province of Iran. Studied traits were birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), six-month weight (6MW), nine-month weight (9MW) and yearling weight (YW). The fixed effects in the model were lambing year, sex, type of birth and age of dam. (...

introduction lori sheep is one of the most important breeds in iran that is mostly bred in lorestan province, north-east of khuzestan and some areas of ilam provinces. the name of this breed is derived from lori tribe, which is one of the major nomadic groups of zagros mountain in western areas of iran. lori sheep is resistant to mountain conditions and hot and dry plains. this sheep breed has ...

in current study, 63 samples of bat populations collected from differ regions were used for evaluating the geographic variations. twenty cranial and dental characters for traditional morphometric and landmarks method on the ventral, dorsal skull and mandible for geometry morphometric studies were used. statistical analyses of traditional morphometric and geometry morphometric data indicated low...

The objective of the current study was to estimate the genetic parameters for body weight traits at different ages in Iran-Black sheep. Data collected during a 24-year period (1984-2008) on body weight were used to model the growth trajectory and estimate genetic parameters. Studied traits were birth weight (BW), weaning weight at 3 months of age (WW), 6 months weight (6MW), 9 months weight (9M...
